Services provided by the Foster Care Centre

The Description of the Procedure for the Organisation and Quality Supervision of the Activities of the Foster Care Centre and the Supervision of the Child's Guardian on Duty (hereafter - the Description), approved by the Order of the Minister of Social Security and Labour of the Republic of Lithuania No. A1-28 of 19 January 2018 “On the Approval of the Description of the Procedure for the Organisation and Quality Supervision of the Activities of the Foster Care Centre and the Supervision of the Child’s Guardian on Duty”, defines the goal of a foster care centre - ensure that all adopted children, children in the care of guardians who are not related by kinship, children in the care of relatives of guardians, children under the care of guardians on duty, the guardians on duty who are not related by kinship, relative guardians, adoptive parents, or persons intending to become such, shall have access to and be provided with the necessary counselling, psychosocial, legal and other assistance in order to ensure that the child or adopted child is properly educated and brought up in an environment close to the family.

In case of difficulties after adoption, during the child’s adaptation, in case of questions about the child’s behaviour, attachment or other issues, the foster care centre can provide services to adoptive parents, adopted children, and other children growing up in the family according to their needs. Services and support can be provided to you and the child(ren) in your family, depending on need:

  • providing information;
  • counselling;
  • psychological services;
  • ongoing training, lectures and seminars;
  • mutual support groups;
  • mediating to maintain the relationship of adopted children with siblings living with other guardians(carers), adoptive families or in foster care institutions;
  • mediating with other authorities to provide additional information about the adopted child’s biological family;
  • socio-cultural services;
  • other services and support based on the needs of adoptive parents and the children in their families.
