Step six. Legal proceedings for adoption
If you have a positive conclusion on Your readiness to adopt, You have the right to apply to the court with an application for adoption.
* Court hearings are private. The court assesses whether the pre-trial adoption procedure has been properly carried out, whether You meet the requirements and are properly prepared to adopt the child, and whether the adoption is in the best interests of the child to be adopted. The court’s decision on adoption becomes final after 30 days, unless the decision is appealed. Only the persons involved in the case have the right to appeal.
* As a general rule, adoption proceedings are concluded in court and a decision on the adoption is taken no later than 2 months from the date of the application. In exceptional cases, where the best interests of the child so require, this period may be extended.
* After the decision on the adoption has become final or has been granted urgent execution, You must contact the civil registry office that registered the child’s birth to obtain a new birth certificate.
